the x cup.

you’ve all done it. you’ve finally done it. you have sent me enough messages to drive me to finally sit down and finish this mute. it’s here…are you happy now?

good. because we are.

say hello to the last cup mute you’ll ever need. play it tight to get that classic red and white fiber cup sound, play it further out for a more metallic modern cup sound. change the screw, you know what they do.

why is it the x cup? the fluted neck allows the sound to actually reach the cup and make it sound like a cup. no longer are you stuck playing a straight mute with a cup attached to it.

comes in 4 sizes: bass, large bore tenor, 3b, and 2b. All are designed to fit snug at a medium cup setting.

oh, and it plays all the notes.

*for tenor and bass trombone

tell me about it.

  • tunable on the fly.

need it soft and distant? shove it in your bell.

need it loud and buzzy, pull it back out

  • vented.

with inserted brass threading you are able to vent the mute for different affects or grab an extra pack of screws and see the different sounds those make

  • squishy.

squeeze it. shove it in your case. shove it in your bell. use it as a stress ball when you miss your solo.

  • tight/open cup sound

all sizes are designed to fit snug at a medium tightness cup setting but can be put further in or left further out for open/tight cup sound.

  • x top.

fluted neck allows the sound to get where the sound needs to get. into the cup.

  • change it (forever)

If you prefer an even more open sound a you can permanently trim the cup (cut angled 1” carefully across the back seam then pull the loose strand to shorten the cup depth). Or shave the corks to allow your natural snug fit of the mute to be tighter against the bell. (or do both to get a tight cup sound with a small cup volume)

tasting notes.

  • Flexible tone.

    infinitely adjustable in bell tuning

once the corks are set you are able to adjust the depth of the mute on the fly for a loud buzzy sound, soft distant, and almost everything in between.

  • fast mute changes.

the soft nature of the gumby allows you to carelessly toss the mute to the ground with little to no sound.

no more missing your next entrance because you are afraid of denting your precious mute.

  • best suited for.

anything. from commercial, jazz, to symphony orchestra or band settings the flexible nature of the gumby allows it to fit in almost anywhere.

  • Is it for me.

for players looking for flexibility in a single mute.

    for players of any style.

for players frustrated by needing multiple mutes to accommodate single works because the loud mute only plays loud and the soft mute only plays soft.

for players who stink at mute changes (you know who you are)

for the player who collects stress balls.
