mute drop 9:

yearning for a sound that will go down in history? just when you thought the cup couldn’t get better, merf stepped it up with another collab with trumpeter,

Josh kauffman.

we aim to bring back that vintage studio rasp of a good cup mute. “old-school” as the kids say. without further adieu:

lights, camera, action… it’s time for their closeup…. insert another cinema phrase…

merf proudly presents

the hollywood.

how do you make something great better? by making it more interesting. with a spanish cedar resonating surface that encompasses the entire bottom of the mute we took the easiest playing cup in existence (the gumby cup) and gave it a unique “old school” sound.

developed at the request of trumpet extraordanaire joshua kauffman we went through seemingly endless testing and prototyping that helped us hone this mute in better than we ever could have imagined. by making the vintage sound playable across the entire horn.

tell me about it.

  • squishy stem, wood bottom.

maintain the adjustable in and out of the bell as the cup mute and gumby while gaining a unique and vintage sound of the wood bottom.

Note: the hollywood. does not flip inside out like the cup mute.

  • vintage ease.

vintage la studio sound modern playability.

  • look fancy, feel fancy, sound fancy.

look like a fancy person by having the ability to say “oh this old thing? its made of spanish cedar.”

tasting notes.

  • vintage sound.

we know we keep saying it and you’ll know it when you hear it. just trust us.

  • adjustable and easy.

tight cup? open cup? its all the same on the hollywood. move it deeper into the bell or have it further out using the same gumby material as the cup mute.

  • screws are still good

got the screws for your other merf. mutes? use em on this! or buy a whole new set so it doesn’t feel neglected.
